I will preface this by saying that I don't think it's a terrible thing for them to bring awareness to the situation. It is significant that it can't just be dismissed by looking away from it. That said, I do hold a certain amount of distrust towards multi-billion dollar multinational corporations paying lip service to important social issues. They're in the best possible place to do more than simply put out a press release or public announcement. Of course, as a philosophical business they're under no duty to do so, and it rings hollow when they try to stand in solidarity with the common individuals. Currently there are companies out there that do things and this is the time to emphasize those efforts; to show they're more than just words.

I would normally agree in the case of paying lip service to social issues without also placing money and support to advocate for change or applying it to the organization and their job in the very least. Having said that police brutality isn't just something that a company like EA throwing money at the issue does considerably towards fixing. At best they place money towards the attorneys and groups that fight to see justice after the fact or lobby to have laws changed that at the present government will not. It has systemic difficulties within police of not reporting their particular and holding them liable instead staying silent and with the authorities unions that allow it all to happen or in ways even encourage it by the repercussions being a slap on the wrist followed by being hired in a different precinct showing them there is no consequences. Before even getting to legislation and rulings such as qualified immunity that shield abusive cops and allow them to misuse their power . The majority of which EA and most capitalist businesses aren't able to do so much about making it unfair to say they're in the best possible position to do more.

Those at the best possible position to do more are the assumed great cops by no longer remaining quiet and allowing bad cops to get away with their abuse of power or voting for superior direction for their marriages which will not enable the behavior. But of course it is just words. Even if all companies stopped doing things wrong, it is going to take a long, long time for that image of corporate America to lose its tarnish. Part of what we might do is elect politicians that at least promise they'll hold these corporations accountable. It probably wont happen alone. This could be a lot easier if someone like this may run for office successfully.

Because no matter the sentiment, this is still 100 percent a business and marketing maneuver. If they really wanted to do something positive, they could do it without marketing their merchandise while doing this. As it is not genuine. This is no different than the coronavirus commercials. They could have said nothing at all. That's good. Solidarity or they realize a decent chunk of the audience is preoccupied with something more significant than a damn videogame? Man. These remarks really emphasize the nihilistic nature of reddit users. Yes, this really is a company. Yes, it's something to do with marketing. However, Jesus, can't we be happy that companies are stating something? Do you not understand just how much of an impact this could create? In the event the firm ignored the situation, it might give every checked out mind the concept that what is happening is ordinary and regular.
